Sometimes camera phones come in handy

I think Zane took our intent to pack him up for the Wichita trip literally...

(Apologies for the quality...it was kinda dark)

All set to watch a little TV

Zane is now getting ready to walk, which means climbing stuff isn't far behind. We decided it was time to get him a chair, a comfy one where he can sit and watch Saturday Morning Cartoons, his Baby Development Channel, and maybe some football with dad.

As usual there are many sizes, shapes, colors, etc. We decided on our criteria for a chair:

  1. Comfortable
  2. Easy to clean
  3. Small enough for him to use almost immediately but big enough he can grow for a few years into it.
  4. Easy to clean.
  5. Cool looking.
  6. Light and portable
  7. Easy to clean.
  8. Built for a boy
  9. Easy to clean.
  10. Ability to change its look with new slipcovers
Hey, when you have a GERDling spitting up all the time, "Easy to clean" is a phrase that rolls off your tongue quickly and often.

We looked at big comfy chairs shaped like Hippos, Pigs, and other assorted animals. We looked at "normal" chairs that had slip covers with patterns, but none of them looked like it belonged to a boy. Well, some did, but we thought they wouldn't allow him to grow enough before they were obsolete. Trust me, we've got tons of stuff he was able to wear or play with 2 months before he was too big.

Then we saw it (well, actually we saw two)! We found a larger chair, built for a boy, easy to clean, light & portable, and was WAY COOL!

So now the big choice was: Superman vs. Batman!

After careful discussion in my head, weighing the pros and cons of each super hero, I reached a decision. I decided to go with the super hero Zane would probably best understand at a young age...and considering the damage he has already brought to the Silva's dog dishes, the monitor at the hospital, numerous things at our house, AND the fact his nickname at 'school' is BAM-BAM...

...the logical choice was:

But in keeping true to being a baby, his attention quickly turned to the SINGLE MOST INTERESTING THING IN THE HOUSE...

Yup, the box the chair came in. Couple that with the empty water bottles and he was all business for quite a while!

But he already sits in his chair and most of the time can get in and out without too many major spills! So I say it was a success!!!

SIDE NOTE: Did you know Zane had an endoscopy performed on him on Tuesday? I will post more later, but Zane did great...much better than mom and dad who were quite worried.

Zane's big surprise.

Zane loves trucks. Or anything that resembles a truck. The first thing he does when he arrives at "school" is make a bee line for a truck. When he gets home, he races over to play with his truck.

Now when I say 'truck,' I am talking about one of those toys that he can push, ride on, and get behind and walk with. It honks, sings songs, makes all sorts of noises, and has a compartment where Zane likes to put things. Which is an improvement since he used to mash his fingers in the compartment.

Anyway, I decided it would be a good idea to video Zane playing with his truck. Normally he crawls around on his knees and one hand, while the other hand tightly holds the truck. He just zooms around like that.

Rarely does he pull himself up behind it. I think this is mainly because it moves forward and makes him unstable. EVERYTHING else in the house, no problem pulling himself up on...or grabbing for everything...or pulling everything down he can get his hands on, etc.

So I set the truck out in the middle of the floor, plopped Zane down near it, and started prepare to film. Well, much to my surprise, Zane pulls a fast one me...which left me scurrying to get video of him.

Zane's Big Surprise:

video

Yup, the little guy took his first steps behind the truck. Now he had been walking while holding onto the couch for a week or so, but this was the first time he'd walked with a moving object.

And I got it on video.

Kinda cool.

OH! And to top it off, he said "Dada" for the first time Friday night. We were at the car dealership and he was babbling along, and then suddenly he just popped a "Dada!" Court and I were just stunned.

And YES, he said it a few more times! You're so cynical! It wasn't a one-time deal.

He'd been saying "Mama" for a few months, so it was about time he got around to "Dada!"

"Dada." Has a nice ring to it, don't ya think?

Very cool.

Very cool indeed. Does it look like I'm enjoying myself?

You bet I am!

Thank you, Zane. Thank you, my lovely wife.

Zane "Sampson" Glynn

For the last few months Zane was starting to look a little scruffy. He was starting to develop a serious comb over around his ears. In addition Zane was beginning to look like a little wild child.

So we decided it was time to take Zane to get a haircut. He went to Court's stylist, Sherri, at Moments Salon. Court has been going to Sherri for over 5 years now. As soon as Sherri found out we were having a baby, she immediately declared Zane's first haircut "her domain."

Sherri did a great job. Zane behaved great, but he was a typical 10-month old and was jerking around, looking everywhere, and generally just trying to see what was going on. So she did a good job of anticipating his antics.

Zane, before his haircut, looking a little scruffy:

Zane was great. He behaved, and actually seemed to have a good time:

Sherri was great with Zane. Mom and Sherri kept him entertained which helped things go smoothly:

Zane was extremely happy when the event was over:

And of course, Zane's charms won the day:

Here is the after photo, all clean cut.

Sadly one thing we immediately noticed was Zane had lost his "baby look." Now he looked all preppy.

Just look at a side-by-side:
