Happy Mother's Day!

Today was Court and Zane's first Mother's Day!

Now Zane's and my idea was to do stuff that was homemade, not store bought. We wanted mom's first Mother's Day to be a special one. Stuff for the keepsake box.

So with Noel's help, Zane and I created a Mother's Day card...

Side note: Scroll down to the next entry to read about Noel's brush with death while picking peaches.

Anyway, back to the homemade card.

Here is the front:

Here is the inside:

We painted Zane's foot and hand, and while I held Zane up in the air, Noel guided his appendage onto the paper to make the print. I now own about 8 pieces of paper with random foot and hand prints on it. It was lots of laughs! Well, I'm not sure if Z thought it was funny, but we sure did.

Clarification: Contrary to what some of you might believe, that is NOT Zane's writing on the lower half of the card. Sadly, that is my awful chicken scratch.

But that is indeed Zane's "writing" on the top half. I let Zane grasp a magic marker while I held his forearm and tried to guide things. It worked out pretty well for the most part. He dropped the marker a few times, tried to eat the marker, flailed about, and of course, his other hand which usually operates on its own accord, tried to help out. You can see the result.

The overall result was fantastic! Thank, Noel! The card was a smash hit.

When the time came to give the card to mommy, Zane grasp the card tightly. And true to form, he tried to soggy it up by gumming it. It survived and mom was uber happy! Admittedly it was really cute carrying him into our bedroom with him carrying the picture. He did a great job.

We then went out to breakfast. It was an uneventful breakfast, which is about all you can hope for when you have a 5-month old. So fortunately I have nothing to write about. *whew*

I had told Court that we had a family project we needed to do at 1pm. We went to "As you wish." This is a pottery place that is set up to let you come in and paint whatever piece you want, however you like. It's really neat. You pick out the pottery and they provide the paint, stamps, brushes, sponges, etc...then you do the "work" of painting the piece. Once you're done, they fire it in the kiln and you can pick it up 3 days later.

Neat, huh?

Here are some action photos...

Zane's foot just after making a footprint.

Zane just before he tried to stick his purple paint covered foot in his mouth. Yes, I hastily put down the camera and stopped him! What did you think I would do???

Mom trying to decide colors to paint with, and Mr. Z trying to make sure she is doing it right.

"I'm ready to paint!" [He tried to also eat the brush 5 seconds later. *sigh* YES I stopped him! Stop thinking about me like that!]

All in all it was a great day. Mom was very happy and a good time was had by all. Zane was great the whole day. We just plain had some fun.
